Privacy Policy

How we handle the information you share with JAM - what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

On this page

We collect the information needed to provide your JAM account and workspace:

  • Account information, such as your name, email address, username, and the sign-in method you use.
  • The journals, entries, images, mentors, tags, action items, feedback, and other content you create or upload.
  • Mood ratings you add to journal entries, and health or wellbeing details you choose to write during onboarding or in entries.
  • Voice audio you choose to send for transcription or conversation, and the resulting transcript or reply needed to provide that feature.
  • Mentor conversations, journal interviews, AI requests, and the generated responses and insights saved to your account.
  • Subscription status and transaction identifiers needed to provide paid features. Apple processes purchases made in the iOS app; Stripe processes purchases made on the web.
  • Web product usage events, such as page routes, features used and basic browser details. Signed-out visits to public pages are counted without an account ID or IP address. Signed-in events include your account ID and subscription tier, unless you turn analytics off. We never send full URLs, query strings or referrer URLs.
  • Limited iOS product interaction events and technical failure details, linked to your account identifier when signed in. These events do not include journal text, mentor conversations, or voice audio.

JAM does not send journal text or mentor conversations to product analytics and does not use session recording or automatic click capture. We do not sell your personal information or use your journal content for advertising or cross-app tracking.

We use this information to:

  • Operate your account, journals, mentors, offline synchronization, and other features you request.
  • Confirm subscription access, process support requests, and communicate service or security notices.
  • Protect JAM from abuse, diagnose failures, and improve reliability and usability.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce our terms.

When you request an AI analysis, mentor reply, journal interview, pattern insight, voice conversation, dictation, or generated mentor avatar, and have agreed to AI data sharing, JAM sends the applicable request context to OpenAI. OpenAI processes that content to generate the result for you. Depending on the feature, this context can include:

  • For entry insights: the selected entry's text, date, mood, and tags; relevant recent entries from the same journal; and the selected mentor's profile and response instructions.
  • For mentor chats: your new message, recent conversation history, attached entry details and saved insights, and the selected mentors' profiles and response instructions.
  • For journal interviews: your latest answer and recent interview history, with a neutral interviewer. No selected mentor profile is used for interviews. Draft generation uses the interview transcript.
  • For pattern insights, including automatic background scoring: the dates and text of relevant entries in the selected period.
  • For mentor avatars: the subject, details, and a chosen mentor reference image, if any.

AI sharing stays off until you agree. You can turn it off in Privacy settings. That stops new AI requests and automatic weekly analysis. A request already running may still finish.

For dictation and voice conversations, our AI provider also processes your microphone audio.

AI features require an internet connection and are unavailable offline. Results saved in your account remain available until you delete the related content.

The iOS app stores a user-scoped copy of journals, pending edits, images, mentor information, and avatars on your device so supported features remain useful without an internet connection. Changes you make offline are queued and synchronized with JAM when your connection returns.

Signing out deactivates that account's local JAM data. Pending offline edits may remain protected on the device so they are not lost. Deleting your account removes its local JAM data. Your device and operating-system security settings still control access to the device and any device backups.

Trusted service providers help us operate JAM. These include cloud hosting and authentication services, OpenAI for AI features you use, Apple and Stripe for their respective purchases, an analytics provider for limited web and iOS product analytics and diagnostics, and any sign-in provider you choose where that option is available.

Each provider receives only the information needed for its role. We require providers handling JAM user data to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law, and not to use it for unrelated purposes.

Your journals, entries, and mentors are yours. We only use them to give you the JAM experience you asked for, and other JAM users never see them.

JAM stores preferences and the data needed for the features described above in your browser or on your device.

Web analytics uses no cookies or browser storage. Its identifier lives only in memory and disappears when you leave or reload the page.

You can update your account details, change your preferences, delete individual content, or delete your account in Account settings. Account deletion is available without a subscription or AI permission. Product analytics is on by default. You can turn it off in Privacy settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete personal information.

To make a data request or ask a privacy question, email support@jam.com.ai. We may need to verify that the request belongs to you.

We keep your content until you delete it or your account. Deleting your account removes your identity, content, files, subscription links and privacy choices from JAM. Keep JAM open until it confirms. If a service is down, JAM retries on its own. If deletion stays incomplete, email support@jam.com.ai. Cancel App Store subscriptions in Apple settings.

Deleted data can stay in protected backups until they expire. We keep sign-in database backups up to 35 days, app database point-in-time backups 7 days, weekly backups 4 weeks, monthly backups 12 months and deleted files 30 days. We use backups only for disaster recovery. If we restore one, we delete accounts again before using it.

Apple, Stripe and the law may require us to keep purchase records. Our AI provider may keep request data under its terms. Turning off AI sharing does not undo past processing.

We use administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect JAM data. No storage or transmission system can be guaranteed completely secure, so keep your device and account credentials protected and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may update this policy as JAM evolves. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will give you notice in the product.
